Kevin Hart got candid with fans during a Facebook Live Q&A with The Hollywood Reporter that touched on everything from his favorite brand of cereal, the best prank he's ever pulled and his honest thoughts about working with Central Intelligence co-star Dwayne Johnson. "It's awful! I've never seen an attitude so high and uppity," Hart joked before saying, "D.J. is one of the best guys in the world. He's a friend/brother now. We're doing great things together." He added, "More importantly, he's a positive guy that wants to see good for people. I'm the same, man. We believe in love, we believe in laughter, and we believe in living right. When you find yourself with a person like that, that attitude becomes contagious, and together, you spread a lot of that positive energy. That's what we've done." Hart also offered words of wisdom for fans interested in getting into comedy. His best advice? Be yourself.
"A lot of people want to get into comedy and talk about it, but you don't realize the first step to getting into comedy is actually going to do it," he said. "You can't do things that you don’t put actions behind. So sit down, take a piece of paper, write out your thoughts and then go to an amateur night and try them. If it doesn’t go well, see what worked, what didn’t work and go back and try it again. But don't be a talker, be a doer." Paramount has signed Belgian directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct Eddie Murphy’s “Beverly Hills Cop 4” — more than two decades after the third film was released. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing as he did on the first two “Beverly Hills Cop” films, which were released in 1984 and 1987. “Beverly Hills Cop III” was released in 1994. The three films grossed a combined $735 million worldwide with the first taking in $316 million. The hiring of El Arbi and Fallah — directors of the award-winning drama “Black” — comes more than a year after Paramount had pulled the fourth installment of the franchise out of its March 25, 2016, release date. Paramount had announced in May, 2014, that the fourth film was scheduled for a 2016 release. Brett Ratner was previously signed-on to direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Star Wars star John Boyega has been cast in Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled Detroit project. Bigelow is directing the crime drama, her first feature since 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty. It is being financed by Annapurna Pictures and has an original script by her frequent collaborator Mark Boal. Details of the project are unknown, but the story is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five summer days in 1967, with the film seeking to explore the systemic racism in the city. The roll call is described as an ensemble piece. A summer shoot in Detroit and Boston is being planned. Bigelow is producing with Boal, Annapurna’s Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman and Colin Wilson. Greg Shapiro will executive produce. No studio is attached yet as a distributor, but Bigelow, Ellison and company are eyeing a 2017 release, timed to the 50th anniversary of the riots. After shooting to international stardom playing Stormtrooper-with-a-conscience Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Boyega currently is shooting the follow-up, Star Wars: Episode VIII. He recently nabbed the lead in Pacific Rim 2 and, in a show of his growing cachet, he also will co-produce the Legendary movie with his business partner Femi Oguns under their joint production company, Upper Room Productions. Boyega, who also has The Circle with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in the can, is repped by WME and Identity Agency Group in the UK. Universal is developing the action-comedy “Run the Jewels” and has set up the movie project with Kevin Hart at his Hartbeat Productions. “Run the Jewels,” based on a pitch from the writing team of Alex Blagg and Neel Shah, is focused on a group of unsuccessful rappers trying to rob an eccentric hip-hop mogul. Kristin Lowe will oversee the project for Universal. The project has not been cast and no director is attached. Kevin Hart is starring with Dwayne Johnson in the comedy “Central Intelligence,” co-financed between Universal and New Line, and starred with Ice Cube in Universal’s “Ride Along” movies. Universal has set an Oct. 14 release for his stand-up tour movie “Kevin Hart: What Now?” His Hartbeat Productions produced his two stand-up comedy movies “Let Me Explain” and “Laugh at My Pain.” Blagg and Shah wrote the Black List comedy script “F*** Marry Kill,” which Sony has set up with Will Gluck and Larry Mark producing. Chicago native and Grammy/Oscar award winning artist, Common has been named one of the executive producers for a coming-of-age drama pilot of Showtime along with Elwood Reid (“The Bridge”).
The pilot, created and written by Lena Waithe will also serve as executive producer and hails from Chicago. Waithe produced “Dear White People” and wrote the viral video “Shit Black Girls Say.” According Variety.com, she is considered one of the top ten comics to watch on the scene. Casting has already begun and filming will take place this month in Chicago. The cast includes both familiar faces and new ones as more will be added to the line-up. Alex Henderson (“Empire”, “Sense8”) Aisha Hinds (“Under the Dome”) Olivia Dawson (“Empire”) Jason Weavor, singer-turned-actor (“Drumline”) Creator and Writer “The Chi”: Lena Waithe The tough streets of Chicago seem to be a director’s ‘wet dream’ to capture on film. Spike Lee’s “Chi Raq” was a constant presence on the South Side over the summer which will premiere Amazon.com’s streaming channel. We’re confident that the talents of both Waithe and Common who hail from the South Side will give an authentic and genuine narrative of the young characters in a way that personify Chicagoans. What a great way to create more work and jobs for people of color in the film industry and in their backyard. Off the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega has been cast in Legendary's Pacific Rim sequel.
He will star in the lead role, the son of Idris Elba's character from the original film. The plot for the sequel has been kept under wraps, but the casting of Boyega for the part means that the film will follow the events of the first pic, set in a world where monster-fighting robot suits known as Jaegers are created to battle fearsome sea creatures. Dwayne Johnson is adding a new superhero to his résumé: Doc Savage. The actor said on Monday that he would be teaming with director Shane Black to bring the pulpy action hero to life in a new film, which had been in development at Sony Pictures. Black is planning to tackle the project after a Predator reboot for Fox. Johnson wrote on Monday that he had sat down with screenwriters Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry over the weekend "to chop up creative and break story on this very cool project." Also, he noted, "the #1 reason I'm excited to become Doc Savage.. HE'S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!" Shane Black, who helmed Iron Man 3 and wrote Lethal Weapon, just saw his Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling starrer The Nice Guys pick up positive notices from critics, although it has performed modestly at the U.S. box office since bowing May 20. In 2013, Black was set to co-write and direct a Doc Savage adaptation after working on the script for several years. Sony had billed the title as a franchise starter. Johnson also will produce the pic through his Seven Bucks Productions banner along with Hiram Garcia. Neal H. Moritz (who worked with Johnson on some of the Fast & Furious movies), Ori Marmur and Michael Uslan also are producing. F.J. DeSanto is co-producing. The superhero title is just the latest on Johnson's busy slate. He is starring alongside Kevin Hart in action comedy Central Intelligence, set for a June 17 release. The actor also stars in the adaptation of Baywatch and the tentpole Fast 8 (both set to open next summer), has a San Andreas sequel in the works and has signed on for the remake of Jumanji.
